Beth Marlis - Music Education Maverick
Beth started as a guitarist, received her BA from UC Santa Cruz and her Masters Degree in music from USC in Studio/Jazz Guitar Performance. She started working at Musicians Institute in Los Angeles in 1987 first as a member of the Guitar faculty, then served as Guitar Department Chair, and now serves as VP Industry and Community Relations.
She is also the Executive Director of The Musicians Foundation that supports scholarships for talented and/or financially challenged students as well as providing educational opportunities for college level music students in Los Angeles.
The people she's performed and toured with are a testament to her talent: Harold Land, Brownie McGee, Helen Reddy and Louie Bellson.
Obviously performing wasn't enough for Beth, as in addition to her teaching and executive duties at Musicians Institute, she's produced over 350 live concerts, master classes, seminars and fundraisers. And she even found time to Chair the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.
She's written two instructional books and produced an instructional DVD available through Hal Leonard Publishing CLICK HERE TO VIEW HER INSTRUCTIONAL BOOKS AND DVD
She's a maverick of music education, and leading the way as a strong, capable, smart woman. Thanks for all you do, Beth!
